What is Rolled Gold? Patented in England in 1817, it became a prime source for semi-precious jewelry in the Victorian era.
Rolled Gold is a thin sheet of gold which is mechanically bonded to either brass or copper, before the jewellery is made.
It is at least 5% of the thickness, this gives a wonderful finish to the pocket watch chain, and considering a solid gold Albert would costs 20x the amount
We can see why it was so popular in Edwardian and Victorian times for creating pocket watches and chains.
